We are all excited and humbled by the Mariposa County Unified School Board’s decision to re-open the Greeley Hill Elementary School for the 2015-16 school year.

This decision and commitment from the district will have a positive impact on our community and especially our student families. The new MCUSD Superintendent, Robin Hopper, has committed to putting our children first and we are thankful.

At the board meeting we were given preliminary information regarding possible enrollment numbers and staffing positions. We will not know exactly what that will be until enrollment is complete. The more enrollment the more teachers and support staff we will have.

The Greeley Hill site will be better than ever because of the commitment of MCUSD and the commitment of our community and parents. The fact that the high school will be located at the Greeley Hill campus brings a solid commitment from the district and a new and positive look for Greeley Hill School. This will be a positive move for the high school population as well as the community at large.

The district will be making improvements and upgrades to the existing buildings and school grounds over the summer and continuing for the next couple of years. The school grounds will be better than ever.

Our community needs to band together and be united for our new school. We have been given a second chance, one that we never thought we would get when they closed the school four years ago. So if you love this community and want to see great things happen here, let’s do what we do best by joining together and working hard to get it done.

Students, parents and community members from Greeley Hill and Coulterville would like to say a special thank you to Superintendent Robin Hopper and MCUSD Board Members Joe D. Rabon of District 1, Steven L. Bacus of District 2, Judy Eppler of District 3, President Joe Cardoso of District 4 and Vice President Kimberly Forsythe-Allison of District 5.

We are proud of our community and thankful for the school district’s decision.
